FAQ

Do I need to be strong / flexible / fit to join ?

This is a common question and the answer is no, our class will help you build these in time safely.  We all have to start somewhere, and as you train, all of these abilities will develop with you.

Never let other people's skills dishearten you, because we will help you achieve your goals.

I've never done anything like this before, can I still join?

Our beginners classes were designed specifically for you.  These courses will put you in a safe environment with other people at your level, all learning the basics at the same time.  You can attend with zero experience or knowledge and will not be at any disadvantage, as the courses have been put together to help you develop and learn.

What do I wear?

You will receive all this information when booking but for pole we ask that you have shorts and a vest.  Leggings are also allowed, however you may need skin out for grip.

For hoop, you will need leggings and shorts as our hoops are currently untaped, and a top that covers your arms.

Try to avoid clothing that has any metal studs or buttons.

No shoes are to be worn in the studio, all rings removed.

What should I bring?

It's always best to make sure you bring a bottle of water with you as classes can be tiring.  You may choose to bring grip aids if they will help you, and a cloth to dry your hands.

We have lockers available to leave your belongings in during your training time.

Am I too old or heavy for classes?

There is no upper age limit on our classes and we encourage people of all ages to give it a try if it interests you.

All of our equipment is tested yearly and checked every day for classes.

We have a recommended maximum limit of 22 stone / 139KG on the apparatuses.

Do I need to be 18?

Yes, currently we do not have any under 18 classes running, but we hope to bring them back in the future.

There are no exceptions to this rule currently.

Is it only for girls?

Absolutely not!  We welcome everyone into our studio and encourage anyone who is interested to give it a try.

We are an inclusive studio and respect everyone in our classes, regardless of pronouns or gender identity.

Do you offer taster sessions?

No, at Poleguns we very much believe it takes at least 3 classes to make the decision on if you like the discipline. We recommend signing up to one of our courses to see if the classes are for you.

Where is the studio?

We are located at Hoults Yard, on Walker Road.  When you come into the Yard follow the road round and left to the arch, and we are just underneath there.

Look out for our sign!

We are within walking distance from Byker metro, and local buses stop nearby.  We also have locked storage areas for bicycles.

When should I not attend classes?

There are a few situations in which you might be unable to sign up to aerial classes.

  • If you are pregnant
  • If you have been feeling unwell or dizzy
  • If you are healing a new tattoo
  • If you are dealing with an injury that may be worsened with sport

Depending on your situation, some classes may be attended during these times, but it's always best to check with your instructor.
